It's been a while......

I’ve not posted for a while so though it was about time I added an update to my blog.

It’s been a busy few weeks, my dad has been unwell and in hospital which was/is worrying.  We have also been on holiday to a not so sunny Blackpool.  It is also a busy time of year for me photographically, the new ice hockey season has started which means quite a bit of my weekends are taken up.  Also have covered 2 of the 3 in-line hockey tournaments I have been booked for – last one is on 9th Oct,

Never the less have been fitting some of the course work in between everything.  I now have all the photographs for the first assignment which are being printed ready for framing and have completed the written work to send off with them.  It has taken me a lot longer than I thought to complete this assignment; looking at other people on the courses blogs they seem to have been using photographs taken for the exercises as part of their assignment submissions.  I’ve only done this for one photograph which is perhaps why it took me more time, I’ll wait for my tutors feedback to see if this was the right thing to do or not.

While at my parent’s house last week I found out the work I had done/submitted for my City & Guilds art of photography.  Now I have just one question, how did I pass?  Most of the photographs submitted I would now not even keep let alone consider submitting for assessment.  Guess it goes to show how much I have learnt and progressed over the last 10 years or so.

Back to now, while I was in Blackpool I did some work on some of the exercises in part 2 and have been out for a day in Milton Keynes to do a little more.  Hopefully once I have got this first assignment together and in the post I will be able to get them written up and catch back up to where I want to be with this course.

New Season - Game 1

I have been re-hired by MK Thunder ENL1 South ice hockey team to cover all of their home games this season and game one was yesterday.

I knew it wasn't going to go great from the beginning, the whole of the ice pad was covered with thick fog, turned out I only had a couple of minutes at the beginning of each period when it was clear enough to take any photographs.  In fact I spent the third period photographing the team on the bench and gave up trying to get any on ice action.

Here are a few of the photographs I took:

More on Assignment 1

I emailed my tutor yesterday for advise on what size prints should be submitted for this assignment and been advised that 8" x 10" (or A4) prints are requested and preferably with a white boarder.  However he is away until 21st September so feel I have a bit more time now to finish getting my photographs taken.

I have some that I've taken one photograph I'm happy with but need to work on their contrast.  However I have manged to complete one set of contrasts this week: Diagonal/Rounded.

Looking through Assignment 1

I have taken a couple of photographs ready for this assignment as I’ve been doing the exercises, a couple of which I posted a few days ago, and been making notes for some contrast I might like to include.

The assignment also asks you to have a look through some photographs taken previously and to try and identify at least four contrasting pairs.  These are the ones that I have identified:
